The Myanmar Rattan and Bamboo Entrepreneurs Association (MRBEA) hosted the Audit Simulation and Stakeholders Workshop on September 30, 2024, at Novotel Hotel Max Yangon. The event gathered key stakeholders, including representatives from WWF-Myanmar, RECOFTC-Myanmar, Myanmar Forest Certification Committee (MFCC), Private Plantation Association (PPA), MRBEA, Yekyi Rattan and Bamboo Producers Association (YRBPA), and rattan producers from Kachin State, Ayeyarwaddy, and Rakhine Region.
The workshop featured:
- PGS Auditor Mr. Wisnu conducting virtual audit simulations for Bella Interiors, TK Interiors, and Classic Home Company.
- Reviews of the PGS Rattan Guideline Book and Sustainable Rattan Management Plan (SRMP) by Dr. Saw Min.
- Discussions on the certification process alignment with PGS led by Mr. Bar Ber Cho from MFCC.
- Knowledge-sharing on auditing procedures by Dr. Khaing Thandar Soe.
- Strategic planning for the formation and next steps of the Myanmar Rattan Certification Board ( MRCB ).
This collaborative workshop advanced sustainable rattan practices, certification processes, and market opportunities for Myanmar’s rattan industry.
