The Myanmar Rattan and Bamboo Entrepreneurs Association (MRBEA) organized a workshop on “Developing Sustainable FHCM Rattan Standards for Myanmar” on December 23, 2024, at the Summit Parkview Hotel. The event brought together key stakeholders from Rakhine and the Ayarwaddy Region, including Myanmar Rattan Certification Board (MRCB), representatives from Myanmar Forest Certification Committee (MFCC), RECOFTC_Myanmar, Private Plantation Association (PPA), YRBPA, and WWF_Myanmar, Central Executives Committee members of MRBEA, and exporters.
The workshop addressed critical aspects of developing the Forest Harvest Collective Mark (FHCM) for sustainable rattan products, focusing on six key criteria essential for implementing sustainable practices:
1. Separation & Traceability
2. Legality Fulfilment
3. Sustainability of Production Function
4. Sustainability of Ecological Aspects
5. Economic and social
6. Compliance Guarantee
The workshop concluded with a collective commitment to refining the FHCM criteria and advancing sustainable practices in Myanmar’s rattan industry, setting a foundation for sustainable environmental, economic, and social benefits.
